The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with TikTok networking and video platform successfully organized a training workshop in Islamabad to discuss community guidelines. Senior officers from the authority also join the workshop, attended by over 100 participants, including representatives from relevant government organizations, academia, civil society, and the digital sector.
During the workshop, experts from the Trust and Safety team of the social networking platform conducted a comprehensive training session on the platform’s community guidelines, content moderation framework, reporting mechanisms, and measures adopted to promote user safety. It is pertinent to mention here that the Trust and Safety team protects the platform by writing and enforcing community guidelines, detecting and removing harmful content, and managing data security compliance.
It said that the global and regional departments use a mix of human moderators and artificial intelligence to handle policy development, user protection, and content safety. At TikTok, thousands of people are focused on helping to make the platform safe for the community to explore entertaining content and share their creativity. The Trust and Safety team is focused on carrying out a variety of tasks to protect the community. The training enhanced understanding of the participants about policies and the platform’s approach to fostering a safe and responsible online environment.
Addressing the workshop, PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman emphasized that ensuring a safe, trusted, and responsible digital environment requires sustained collaboration among regulators, digital platforms, and all relevant stakeholders. The workshop also provided an opportunity for PTA, TikTok, and other stakeholders to exchange views on online safety, responsible digital engagement, and the emerging challenges facing the digital ecosystem. It said that the workshop reflects PTA’s continued commitment to working closely with digital platforms and relevant stakeholders to promote digital literacy, enhance online safety, and foster a safe, responsible, and inclusive digital environment.

In another development, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Meta have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to establish a collaborative framework for promoting youth online safety, digital literacy, and the responsible use of digital platforms in Pakistan. The collaboration will also support open and constructive dialogue to foster a shared understanding of content safety practices in Pakistan. Through this partnership, the chairman stated that PTA aims to promote digital literacy, encourage responsible online behavior, and foster a more secure digital environment for the people, particularly children and young users.
Under this collaboration, PTA and Meta will work together on capacity building, policy dialogue, awareness campaigns, and the exchange of global best practices related to youth online safety and digital well-being. The collaboration will also facilitate engagement on online content governance, regulatory compliance, and initiatives aimed at strengthening digital safety across Pakistan.
