In collaboration with the Pakistan Solar Association, the Nasreen Dad Foundation under its Saaf Suthra Pani Project has inaugurated an ultra filtration water plant at Sheikhan in tehsil Lalian of district Chiniot, according to a press release of the organization.
The inauguration ceremony was led by Pakistan Solar Association Vice Chairman Afaaq Ali Khan, and Nasreen Dad Foundation member Ali Imran Dad along with their teams. Members of the Imambargah committee, local elders, and a large number of community members also joined the event. This initiative comes at a critical time when access to safe drinking water remains a major public health challenge in rural and flood-affected areas of Punjab.
As per experts, contaminated water is a leading cause of diseases such as cholera, typhoid, hepatitis A and E, dysentery, and severe diarrhea, particularly among children and vulnerable populations. The newly-installed ultra filtration plant will provide safe drinking water to more than 10,000 residents across surrounding areas, including Sheikhan Adda, Sheikhan Sadat, Shadi Pur, Adda Khoi, Jhlar Nathoo Shah, Natdyana Wala, Thatha Shah Jamal, Ratta Kalan, and nearby communities.
By removing harmful bacteria, viruses, and parasites from water, the plant will play a critical role in preventing the spread of water-borne diseases, reducing child mortality, and improving overall community health. In areas affected by flooding, where water sources are often contaminated, such interventions are essential to break the cycle of infection and disease. “Through Saaf Suthra Pani Project, we are not just installing water plants, we are protecting communities from preventable diseases and ensuring that access to clean water becomes a basic right, not a privilege,” Nighat Dad, founder of Nasreen Dad Foundation, said in a statement.
Community members expressed deep appreciation, describing the initiative as a life changing intervention that will significantly improve daily life and health outcomes. The Saaf Suthra Pani Project is part of the Nasreen Dad Foundation’s broader commitment to supporting flood affected and under-served communities through sustainable solutions that strengthen public health, dignity, and resilience.
