Muslims in Pakistan started to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, a highlight of the Islamic calendar that marks culmination of the fasting month of Ramadan, with special prayers, family gatherings, honoring elders, friend circles, sharing meals and charity – all rooted in faith and Islamic tradition.
A happy celebration of thankfulness, generosity and revival of community, Eid-ul-Fitr is the annual Islamic celebration that runs for the first three days of Shawwal – the 10th month of the Hijri calendar. Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah Sheikh Dr Abdulrahman Al-Sudais led the prayers and delivered a sermon, extending his congratulations on the Eid occasion.

President Asif Ali Zardari in a message on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr urged Muslims to remember those who were facing economic hardships as true happiness was related to sharing joys with others. “We should actively fulfill our obligations of Zakat, charity, and Fitrana so that no needy person is deprived of the happiness of Eid,” he said.
He extended his heartfelt felicitation to the entire nation and the Muslim world on Eid-ul-Fitr. “This joyous day comes to us after the blessings, worship, and journey of piety during Ramadan. Eid ul-Fitr is a gift from Almighty Allah, granted to us as a reward for fasting,” he said. “We must promote brotherhood among ourselves so that Pakistan emerges as a strong and prosperous nation.”
In his felicitation message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended heartfelt Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to the nation. “Eid day teaches us happiness, thankfulness, brotherhood and empathy,” he said, adding that the holy month of Ramadan emphasis on forbearance, patience and sacrifice and it was necessary for all Muslims to continue practicing these characteristics even after the fasting month besides sticking to Islamic principles.
He said that there was a need to stay protected from all sorts of extremism, hatred and sectarianism. “We need to be united for integrity and stability of Pakistan besides not letting any conspiracy to succeed,” he said, and appealed to the people to share joys of Eid-ul-Fitr with weak and deserving brothers and sisters, relatives and neighbors and play their role in forming a welfare society.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a video statement extended Eid ul-Fitr greetings to Muslims on Eid festival, noting that millions of Muslims would mark the occasion under war and displacement rather than traditional family gatherings. “I want to express my best wishes for Eid ul-Fitr to all Muslims around the world,” he said.
He emphasized the festival’s core values of solidarity and compassion, expressing hope these principles might bridge divided communities. His message came as Palestinians in Gaza, Kashmiris under Indian occupation, Rohingya refugees, people in Sudan, and other conflict-affected Muslim populations face particularly somber celebrations amid ongoing violence and humanitarian crises.
In Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman led Eid prayers as the Saudi kingdom marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Joined by royals and senior officials, the king performed the Eid prayer at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah. The crown prince also led Eid prayers at the Grand Mosque in Makkah. He was joined by Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.
In the Eid message, Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim and Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah said that every Malaysian has responsibility to maintain unity that should not be just on the surface, but must be deeper. They hope that Eid will be celebrated in a good manner, marking a day of victory for Muslims after controlling their desires, purifying their souls and pursuing all rewards throughout the glorious month of Ramadan.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called on Muslims to continue fostering strong relationships with people of different races and religions in Malaysia. He stressed that the Malaysian nation cannot achieve the peace and stability without mutual respect, compassion and kindness. “May this Eid be celebrated with this awareness, elevating us as individuals of integrity, strong moral character and a deep sense of responsibility,” he said.
In a video message, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus greeted Muslims on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. “I wish everyone a joyful Eid Mubarak. During Eid, may you travel to your homes peacefully and joyfully with your family.” He urged the people to visit the graves of their relatives, check on poor families, and think about how to improve their future. He urged all to remain united and firm in the face of all provocations by the defeated forces, despite any difference of opinion during Eid prayers.
British King Charles and his wife Queen Camilla extended their heartfelt Eid wishes to Muslims celebrating in the United Kingdom and around the world. In London, Buckingham Palace shared a message on its official Instagram account to share their blessed wishes. The royal couple wrote, “Eid Mubarak to Muslims celebrating in the UK and around the world,” in the caption. Along with the text, the message was accompanied by a photo featuring a brown mosque against a blue background.
In a message, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Muslims on the Eid festival. “I’m sending you my warmest congratulations on the Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. Marking the end of Ramadan, this ancient and important holiday symbolizes a quest for spiritual growth, kindness and compassion,” he said, and noted important contribution of Muslim organizations into Russia’s public and spiritual life, and their role in charitable, educational and patriotic projects and initiatives. Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin also congratulated Muslims on the Eid festival.
In Jakarta, President Prabowo Subianto announced opening of the Presidential Palace for the general public, and invited former presidents and vice presidents to join Eid celebrations. The public can directly come to the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta. After performing the Eid prayer at the Istiqlal Mosque, the president will directly head to the Merdeka Palace to host the open house event to build relationships with state officials, ambassadors from friendly countries, national figures, and the general public.
In a message, Indian President Droupadi Murmuon greeted fellow Muslims citizens on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr and wished that the festival bring peace, progress and happiness in everyone’s lives. She said that the Eid festival promotes social bonding and inspires all to build a harmonious, peaceful and prosperous society. “Eid is an occasion to promote the spirit of empathy, compassion and charity. May this festival bring peace, progress and happiness in lives of all and give us strength to move forward with positive attitude,” she said.
In India, the state is branding every activity of Muslims as a criminal act, as per media reports. Whether they buy a house, open a shop, hawk bangles in the streets, study or pass a competitive exam, everything is a ‘criminal conspiracy’ to usurp what they say ‘share of Hindus.’ In Meerut, the police chief said that no one will be allowed to offer Islamic prayers on the road. He said that the cases will be filed and action will be initiated to cancel the passport of those defying the order.
